Pierrot Men | Madagascar
I have always lived and worked in Madagascar and each of my photographs is a declaration of love for my country and its inhabitants. My father came from China in the 1920s, fleeing the Sino-Japanese conflict. He would have liked me to become a merchant like him...I first wanted to be a painter, which I was for twenty-three years. I practiced photography as a model for my paintings. On the advice of a friend who found the photos of my paintings more beautiful than my paintings themselves, I gave up painting for photography while keeping, I hope, a little of my painter's eye when I take a photo. Sometimes we meet people who change everything...I have been photographing for 40 years now and through my photos, I try to convey a lot of things to see and feel.
J'ai toujours vécu et travaillé à Madagascar et chacune de mes photographies est une déclaration d'amour pour mon pays et ses habitants. Mon père est arrivé de Chine dans les années 1920, fuyant le conflit sino-japonais. Il aurait aimé que je devienne marchand comme lui...J'ai d'abord voulu être peintre, ce que j'ai été pendant vingt-trois ans. J'ai pratiqué la photographie comme modèle pour mes peintures. Sur les conseils d'un ami qui trouvait les photos de mes tableaux plus belles que mes tableaux eux-mêmes, j'ai abandonné la peinture pour la photographie tout en gardant, j'espère, un peu de mon œil de peintre quand je prends une photo. On fait parfois des rencontres qui changent tout...Je photographie depuis 40 ans maintenant et à travers mes photos, j'essaie de transmettre beaucoup de choses à voir et ressentir.
